Practical, honest guides on installation costs, repair vs replacement, boiler faults, warranties and finance — written by the Gas Safe engineers who carry out this work every day across Manchester.
Every guide on this site is written — or reviewed — by a Gas Safe registered engineer at Next Gen Boilers Ltd. We don't outsource our content to writers who've never touched a boiler. The advice here comes from over 10 years of hands-on experience installing and repairing boilers across Greater Manchester.
We've completed over 700 installations and hundreds of repairs. We know what homeowners get wrong, what they worry about, what the real costs are, and what questions to ask before booking any boiler work. These guides try to share that knowledge as clearly and honestly as possible.
If a guide doesn't answer your question, call us. Our engineers are happy to give free advice over the phone — no obligation, no sales pressure.
We will never recommend a product or service in these guides because it earns us more money. When we say Worcester Bosch is worth the extra cost, it's because we've installed hundreds of them and seen the difference in reliability and customer satisfaction. When we say a repair might be better than a replacement, we mean it.
Boiler prices, warranty terms and regulations change. We review our guides regularly — all price and warranty information on this site is checked and updated for 2026. If you spot anything that seems out of date, please call and let us know.

Straight answers from Gas Safe engineers
Most standard combi boiler replacements take between 4 and 8 hours and are completed in a single working day. A system conversion — for example, moving from a conventional system boiler to a combi — may take up to 2 days. Our engineers will give you a realistic timescale during the booking process.
A new combi boiler, fully supplied and installed in Manchester, typically costs between £1,699 and £2,500 depending on the brand, output and complexity of the installation. At Next Gen Boilers Ltd, our prices start at £1,699 fully installed including a free Hive thermostat, filter and system flush.
Modern gas boilers typically last between 10 and 15 years with regular annual servicing. Some Worcester Bosch and Viessmann models can exceed 20 years with proper maintenance. If your boiler is approaching 15 years old and starting to develop faults, replacement is usually more economical in the long run.
As a general rule: if the repair cost is more than 50% of the price of a new boiler, or if your boiler is over 15 years old and has already had significant repairs, a replacement is usually the better investment. For newer boilers with minor faults, repair is almost always the right choice. Our engineers will give you an honest assessment.
A Gas Safe registered engineer is one who has passed the required competency assessments and is legally authorised to work on gas appliances. In the UK, it is a criminal offence to carry out gas work without Gas Safe registration. Every Next Gen Boilers engineer is Gas Safe registered — you can verify this on the Gas Safe Register website.
The warranty depends on the manufacturer and the installing company. As Worcester Bosch accredited installers, we can offer up to 12 years parts and labour warranty on Worcester Bosch boilers. Baxi, Viessmann, Ideal and Vaillant offer up to 10 years. All installation work also carries a 1-year workmanship warranty from us.
Yes — for several reasons. Most boiler warranties require an annual service to remain valid. A service also improves efficiency (potentially saving 10-15% on gas bills), catches developing faults before they become emergencies, and is a legal requirement for landlords. Annual servicing by Next Gen Boilers starts from £69.
If you smell gas, leave the property immediately, don't switch any electrical switches on or off, don't use your mobile inside, and call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 (free, 24 hours). Once the area has been made safe by the gas emergency service, call us and we can assist with any ongoing repair or make-safe work.
