What is a combi boiler and how does it work?

A combi (combination) boiler is a single unit that provides both central heating and instant hot water on demand. Cold mains water passes through a heat exchanger inside the boiler and is heated directly as you open a tap — there's no need for a separate hot water cylinder or cold water storage tank in the loft.

Is a combi boiler suitable for my home?

Combi boilers are ideal for homes with 1–3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. They work best where hot water is used by one outlet at a time. For larger homes with multiple bathrooms, high hot water demand, or poor mains water pressure, a system or heat-only boiler may be more suitable.

What are the disadvantages of a combi boiler?
