What Happens During an Annual Boiler Service? A Full Checklist

A boiler service isn't just a tick-box exercise. Here's exactly what our Gas Safe engineers check, clean and test during every service visit across Manchester and Salford.

Why Annual Servicing Matters

An annual boiler service is often compared to an MOT for your car. It's not just about catching obvious problems — it's about identifying developing issues before they become expensive faults, ensuring your boiler is operating safely and efficiently, and maintaining the validity of your manufacturer warranty.

At Next Gen Boilers Ltd, our annual service costs £80. Most services take 45–60 minutes. We serve Manchester, Salford, Irlam, Eccles, Swinton, Worsley, Trafford, Stretford and the wider Greater Manchester area.

What Our Engineers Check During a Service

Our Gas Safe engineers work through a comprehensive checklist on every service visit: visual inspection of the boiler casing and controls; checking the flue terminal is clear and securely fitted; inspecting the gas supply connection and pipework; checking the boiler's operating pressure; removing and inspecting the burner for carbon deposits; cleaning the heat exchanger; checking the ignition leads and electrodes; testing combustion efficiency with a flue gas analyser; testing all safety devices (overheat thermostat, pressure relief valve); inspecting seals and gaskets for deterioration; and recording all results on a service report.

If any element is outside manufacturer specification, we'll advise you on the spot. For minor issues, we'll often resolve them there and then. For more significant faults requiring parts, we'll quote before proceeding.

What You Get After the Service

At the end of every service, you'll receive a written service report confirming the work carried out and the condition of each component. This is important documentation for warranty compliance and — if you ever sell your property — evidence of proper maintenance.

If your boiler is on a Next Gen Boilers care plan, the service is included in your monthly payment and we'll book it automatically. If you have a standalone annual service, we'll send you a reminder 12 months later. Call us on 07305 687 331 to book your next service.
