How Long Does a New Boiler Installation Take in Manchester?

Most boiler swaps take just one day. But a few factors can affect the timeline. Here's exactly what to expect on installation day with Next Gen Boilers Ltd.

A Standard Like-for-Like Swap: 4–6 Hours

If you're replacing an existing combi boiler with a new combi boiler in the same location — which is by far the most common job we do across Manchester and Salford — the installation typically takes between four and six hours. Our engineer arrives, disconnects and removes the old unit, fits the new boiler in the same position, connects it to your existing pipework, tests the system and shows you how to use your new controls.

We install Worcester Bosch, Baxi, Alpha and Viessmann boilers. All our installations include a free magnetic filter, chemical flush and wireless thermostat, so there's no need to source these separately. By the time our engineer leaves, your heating and hot water will be fully working.

What Makes an Installation Take Longer?

Several factors can extend the installation time beyond a standard half-day. Converting from a regular or system boiler to a combi boiler involves removing the hot water cylinder and cold water tank, capping off pipework and potentially replumbing parts of your system. This can take 6–10 hours or even two days for larger properties.

Relocating the boiler to a different room — for example, moving it from an airing cupboard to a kitchen — also adds time due to new pipework runs and a new flue position. Similarly, if your existing heating system has scale or sludge build-up, we may recommend a power flush before fitting the new boiler, which adds several hours but protects the new unit and your warranty.

Next-Day Boiler Installation Across Greater Manchester

At Next Gen Boilers Ltd, we understand that a broken boiler isn't a problem you want to wait weeks to resolve — especially in the colder months when Manchester and Salford temperatures regularly drop below freezing. That's why we offer next-day installations where our schedule allows.

We cover Irlam, Eccles, Swinton, Worsley, Walkden, Trafford, Stretford, Stockport, Sale, Bolton, Bury and Oldham — and we aim to have you with a fully working new boiler within 24–48 hours of your survey. Call us on 07305 687 331 to check current availability.

What Happens After Installation?

Once the new boiler is fitted and tested, your engineer will walk you through the controls and show you how to set the thermostat, adjust the pressure and bleed a radiator. All our installations include a 10-year parts and labour warranty, and we register your boiler with the manufacturer on your behalf.

Your engineer will also leave a Gas Safe installation certificate — a legal requirement for any gas appliance installation in the UK. We submit building regulations notification to your local council automatically, so you don't have to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stay in my home during a boiler installation?

Yes — you can stay in the property throughout. You'll have no heating or hot water during the installation, so on cold days it's worth having a portable heater available. Most installations are complete within a working day.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for a boiler installation?

Clear access to the boiler and the area around it. If you have a combi conversion and there's a cylinder in an airing cupboard, clear that out too. Your engineer will advise on anything specific during the survey.

How soon can Next Gen Boilers install my new boiler?

We offer next-day installation across Manchester, Salford and Greater Manchester where our schedule allows. Call us on 07305 687 331 to check current availability.

Do you take away the old boiler?

Yes. We remove and dispose of your old boiler and all associated waste as part of every installation.

Is a Gas Safe certificate included?

Yes. Every installation includes a Gas Safe certificate as standard. This is a legal requirement and also needed if you ever sell your home.
